If you drive to the Camden, Maine, waterfront at 1 p.m. on any given day, you're likely to see a wool-clad couple pull up in a red pickup truck, unload a small pile of gear and oars, and walk to their waiting green dory. Indeed, you can set your watch by Sam and Susan Manning (above), whose daily routine includes a row around Curtis Island at the mouth of Camden Harbor. That's a couple of miles, and the Mannings do it in all seasons, in all but the foulest of weather.
