A mountain-climber friend once said to me, in response to my apparent apprehension about . dangling off a thousand-foot sheer cliff, "Hey, if you're not scared, you're not having fun." Those words sprang to mind as I sat in John Eisenlohr's woodshop in Lakeside, Montana, listening to him describe rocketing around a dry Nevada lake bed in WINGNUT III, his Class Ill/Class IV dirt boat, at 80 mph, his body wedged into the fuselage like a worm in a cocoon, only his helmeted head half protruding, peering through the narrow slot between the fuselage and sail, one wheel airborne, the windward mark approaching, his hands gripping the belowdecks main wing control, all the parts clattering and jumping, and his nemeses Alan Wirtanen and Phil Rothrock barreling in above him.
