As a boy on the coast of North Carolina in the 1950s, I became acquainted with many small outboard boats. The one boat that serious lishermen chose to run the treacherous Carolina inlets to the fishing grounds was the Simmons Sea Skiff (WB No. 144). Mr. Simmons built these boats by "shell construction" on a buildingjig. No lofting is required. Dave Carnell did us the great service of measuring one of the Simmons boats, and he has made the plans available. I have modified some of the construction details to make the boat stronger and more versatile. These changes eliminate the structural need for thwarts, so you can install any configuration of furniture that you desire. However, I wouldn't add a cabin with standing headroom, full galley, head, and a V-berth. Enough talk; go get your tools! Take your time and work carefully; you'll come out with all your fingers and a really nice boat.
