Editor's note: Due to the diligent efforts of Editorial Advisory Board member, Professor Yang Zhiping, the following contributions have been provided.Michael Blackman. Up to December 31, 2007, total applications for three kinds of China patents (invention patents, utility model patents and design patents) received from home and abroad since 1985 sum to 4,028,520, with 3,314,591 domestically and 713,929 abroad, accounting for 82.3% and 17.7% of total applications, respectively. Applications for China invention patent, China utility model patent and design patent are 1,334,676, 1,471,191 and 1,222,653, respectively, accounting for 33.1%, 36.5% and 30.4% of total applications each.
