Consumer's Energy has successfully completed installation of a 6-in. steel gas distribution line and a 4-in. medium density polyethylene (MDPE) line under the Saginaw River in downtown Saginaw, Michigan.To install the lines, crews had to complete two separate bores: 930 and 945 ft, respectively, through sand, clay, and stone cobble, at 42-ft depths. The gas distribution line was connected to existing medium-pressure facilities on both sides of the river. The MDPE pipe will serve as a conduit for a telecommunications wireline.Sub-Surface Construction Co., a SEMCO ENERGY company, served as construction contractor, and installed the lines in eight days.
