Some 20,141 mi (32,406 km) of natural gas, crude oil and refined petroleum products pipe lines are under construction or planned in Europe.By far, most of this total is under study or planned for future construction. Again this year, natural gas continued to lead the way, accounting for some 17,694 mi (28,470 km) of the total mileage.Projects emanating from the Caspian, Baltic and North Sea regions, as well as from he Former Soviet Union (FSU) account for most of the totals.With long-distance gas transmission lines planned and under construction, European gas utilities are renovating and expanding their gas distribution systems. Much of this type of work is planned or underway in Spain, Swede, Poland, Ireland, UK and France.
