Course content and employability skills in vocational degrees: reflections for town planning course content

摘要

This paper proposes to examine the evolution, in recent times, of this debate between skills- and subject-based training. Principles are identified by which skills training may best be delivered, followed by two case studies drawn from built-environment modules at Oxford Brookes University. A research poll of students and the findings of workshop discussion are presented to assist in evaluation of students' own perceptions of 'skills versus subject' in professionally accredited undergraduate education. Conclusions are drawn from this study to guide academics and promote further debate and research in this area.
