A field experiment was conducted at the MSUE research station near Clarksville, MI in Riddles sandy loam. Before planting, the ground was prepared with a disc ripper and field cultivator. Fertilizer was applied on 27 Sep 07 at a rate of 20lb/A actual N, 50 lbs/A of P, and 100 lb/A of K. On 9 Oct 07, Caledonia soft white winter wheat treated with Raxil/XT (tebuconazole 15% and metalaxyl 20%, 0.20 fl oz/cwt) was drilled at a rate of 165 lb/A into tilled soil with corn residuepresent. Plots were 26 feet long and fourteen 7-in. rows wide. Plots were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Plots were fertilized with 85 lb/A nitrogen with 6 fl oz /A Nutrisphere on 19 Apr 08. AffinityBroadspec herbicide (25% thifensulfuron-methyl and 25% tribenuron-methyl) at a rate of 0.75oz/A and Improve nonionic surfactant (0.125 % V/V.) were applied on 13 May 08 to control broadleaf weeds. Fungicides were applied at a volume of 20gal/A at two different spray timings using a handheld CO2 back pack sprayer set at 40 psi equipped with four TJ60 8003 nozzles spaced 20 in. apart. Plots were rated for powdery mildew and Septoria blotch on 13 Jun 08. At five equidistantlocations throughout the length of each plot, plants in the center rows were rated using a scale of 0-9, with 0 = no disease, 1 = disease present on flag-4 and below, 2 = disease present on flag-3 and below, 3 = disease on flag-2 and below, 4 = diseasepresent on flag -1 and below, 5 = disease on flag leaf, up to 1%, 6 = disease on flag leaf >1% -5%, 7 = disease on flag leaf >5%-10%, 8 = disease on flag leaf >10%-20%, and 9= disease on flag leaf > 20%. Plots were rated (0-100%) for headblight (HB) incidence, severity and field severity (index) on 27 Jun 08, using four subsamples per plot and ten heads per subsample. The center five feet of each plot was harvested using a small plot combine on 24 Jul 08. Test weight, plotweight, and grain moisture were collected at harvest, and yield was adjusted to 13% moisture. Grain weight for 1000 seed was determined post-harvest. Grain sub-samples were sent to the University of Minnesota for analysis of deoxynivalenol.Data for powdery mildew severity, Septoria blotch severity, HB incidence, head severity, and field severity, ppm DON, test weight, yield and 1000 seed weight were subjected to analysis of variance followed by mean separation using Fisher’sprotected least significant difference (LSD) with P=0.05.
