A United Nations panel has adopted draft amendments to model international rules for hazardous materials transport that would prohibit use of deformed intermediate bulk containers and require those containers to pass temperature tests and meet certain other requirements.There was much discussion of rules for intermediate bulk containers and smaller consumer quantities of well-packaged hazardous materials at the Nov. 28-Dec. 7 meeting of the U.N. Subcommittee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods,according to Shane Kelley,international transportation specialist at the Transportation Department's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
