In September 2006, severe outbreaks of powdery mildew on trumpet honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) were observed in Seoul, Korea. White superficial mycelia and conidia were present epiphyllously on both sides of the leaves and young shoots, forming thin, irregular colonies. Infections often caused leaf distortions, withering and reduced growth. The causative agent was identified as E. lonicerae var. lonicerae based on the morphology of the isolate. This is thought to be the first report of the occurrence of powdery mildew on L. sempervirens in Asia.
