摘要

Five companies in New England have had to spend more than 1.5 million in safety improvements and to face 203,321 in penalties for allegedly failing to comply with federal emergency response and prevention laws, the Environmental Protection Agency said Nov.21.EPA said two of the penalty actions-against Nova Chemicals in Indian Orchard,Mass.,and Callahan Chemical Co.in Walpole,Mass.-are particularly notable because they are the first cases in which it proposed administrative penalties under the Clean Air Act's General Duty Clause.
