For western European standard thermoplastics buyers, 2011 began in horror. With feedstocks already sky high, January brought further triple-digit rises to polyolefins and styrenics, and producers made no secret of their intention to pass on the higher costs. With supply tight and demand lively, PVC and EPS were practically the only polymers with double-digit gains. LDPE crashed the EUR 1,500/t barrier, and PS stopped barely below EUR 2,000/t. PVC and EPS were stuck in the snow and ice that kept the building industry out of action.
