The global bioplastics market is expected to grow by an average 34.3 % per year over the next five years, from 850,000 t in 2011 to more than 3.7m t in 2016, according to BCC Research (Wellesley, Massachusetts / USA; www.bccresearch.com). ? Although global economic weakness slowed demand growth between 2009 and 2011, support from companies such as Coca-Cola, Heinz, Ford, AT&T and Toyota is spurring growth. Another important factor is the Chinese government's growing support for agricultural development in areas such as bioplastics, BCC Research added in a report entitled "Global markets and technologies for bioplastics". Brazil and Thailand also are emerging as bioplastics-producing powerhouses.
