Plasties consumption down in 2014 / Lack of investment/Too many small businesses / Only slight signs of recovery/ Efforts to switch to 'green' chemistry not sufficient/ Machinery exports steady/Plastic Consult
Europe's second largest plastics exhibition "Plast" (www. plastonline.org) will take place from 5-9 May in Milan / Italy -sandwiched between the "NPE" at the end of March and "Chinaplas" at the end of May. These are critical times for a troubled Italy trying to shake off decades of political and industrial stagnation and corruption. It is also a good time to take a fresh look at the country's plastics industry. Not so long ago, the country made headlines because of a downsizing wave in PVC production - including the unpleasant role played by Ineos (Rolle / Switzerland; www.ineos.com). The Ravenna plant was closed down in 2012 as the last of three dilapidated facilities. Almost all other areas of Europe's third largest plastics industry have likewise been suffering for years, from a lack of investment at least.
