Single-component ferrimagnetics: triplet-doublet composite molecules as constittuents of purely organic molecule-based ferrimagnets

摘要

Three kinds of organic triradicals consisting of a nitronyl nitroxide biradical with S = 1 and nitroxide or intronyl nitroxide monoradicals with S = 1/2 were synthesized by the esterification of corresponding phenol and carboxylic acid derivatives. Thse triradicals are model molecules for single-component organic ferrimagnetics. It was found from the solution ESR spectra of the triradicals that the time-averaged intramolecular exchange interactions between the S = 1 and S = 1/2 moieties were much weaker thanthat within the S = 1 moiety and their magnitudes were in the order of 10 mK. These results indicate that the triradicals have the potential to be building blocks of single-component organic molecule-based ferrimagnetics.
