Degradation of Low Density Polyethylene/ Thermoplastic Soya Spent Powder Blends

摘要

This study examines the properties of blends prepared from low density polyethylene (LDPE) with various concentration of soya spent powder (SSP). The soya spent powder content was varied from 5 to 25 wt%. For thermoplastic soya spent powder (TSSP) blends, glycerol was used as plasticizer to improve the interfacial adhesion between LDPE and SSP. Natural degradation of the samples was evaluated by exposing all the samples to natural weathering for 3 months. The tensile strength and elongation at break (E_b) decreased as the soya powder content increased meanwhile the Young's Modulus increased after the exposure. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) micrographs showed the presence of microorganisms on the LDPE/TSSP blends surface. In conclusion, after weathering, the weight loss of LDPE/SSP blends was higher than LDPE/TSSP blends.
