The recent article by Holgado et al. reported an audit of discrepant results for chromosomal aneuploidy between quantitative fluorescence polymerase chain reaction (QF-PCR) and cultured karyotype testing in chorion villus samples (CVS) over a 7-year period (2002-2009). A similar audit of all UK laboratories providing the same dual CVS testing was conducted in 2007 following reports of discrepancies between test results. Changes in the preparation and selection of villus tissue for QF-PCR testing were recommended and adopted by all UK NHS laboratories in Best Practice Guidelines (ACC/CMGS).3 Recently, all UK laboratories were invited to re-audit their data to see whether these changes have resulted in a reduction in discrepancies.
