Your old car is in excellent mechanical condition, so you figure there's going to be no problem with passing inspection - until the DMV drone refuses you because of the quarter-size rust hole in the fender, even though the rest of the car is fine. You're not going to spring USD400 or USD500 to have a body shop fix it, and a sheetmetal-screw-and-flattened-beer-can patch just has no class. You need a patch properly welded in place, and that means using a MIG welder. Or does it?
