摘要

There is growing interest in improving the properties of polymers and resins through the incorporation of nanoscale materials. These polymer nanocomposilos often possess enhanced thermal stability and reduced flammability while also improving mechanical and barrier properties. In this work, we arc investigating the preparation and properties of polymer - layered silicate nanocomposilos (PLSNs) and polymer - carbon nanotube nanocomposites (PCNNs). To prepare PLSNs, the clay needs to be compatiblized with the polymer using an organic modifier; currently this is achieved industrially by treating the clay with dimethyl-di(hydrogenated tallow) ammonium (DMDHtAmm) salts.
