The impact of the various treatments for localised prostate cancer on patients' quality of life varies according to the treatment: increased prevalence of urinary incontinence following prostatectomy, erectile dysfunction with androgen deprivation therapy and bowei problems after radiotherapy. 5% of prostate cancers are diagnosed after the age of 65 years. In localised disease, i.e. where the cancer has not spread beyond the capsule, the treatment options are: prostatectomy, radiotherapy or active surveillance without treatment (watchful waiting). Despite its unfavourable risk-benefit balance, antiandrogen therapy is still sometimes proposed (1,2).
