Our June editorial was focused on the paradox of preventive medicine's being a discipline whose domain seems so obvious that few people have tried to define it precisely (Morabia and Costanza, 2008). We also mentioned that preventive medicine was more related to prevention and early identification of diseases than to management of disease. Does this mean that preventive medicine is primarily concerned with health? This brings to mind another famous historical debate between two professors at the Yale School of Medicine.
