摘要

In this editorial we summarize and discuss the public health significance of the four human papillomavirus-focused papers in this issue of Preventive Medicine. Each paper, from a unique perspective, identifies barriers to effective implementation of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevention programs (both vaccination and screening) and suggests approaches to addressing and overcoming those barriers.Four HPV-related articles in this issue of Preventive Medicine cover both HPV screening and HPV vaccination (Guichon et al, 2013-in this issue; Roland et al, 2013-in this issue; Saraiya et al, 2013-in this issue; Zimet et al, 2013-in this issue). While the authors use a variety of approaches, namely a case study, an editorial review, a historical review, and empirical research, all four papers complement each other and have important implications for the public health goals of prevention of HPV and HPV-related diseases.
