As I began to contemplate writing my speech for the 27~(th) annual IPMI conference I cast my mind back over my years of membership and started to wonder just how long it's been. Referring back to the members directory I soon realized that I have been a member of the IPMI for more than half of its life. Not a great achievement when one looks at the experience of the membership and the fact that many members have been here from the beginning. Nevertheless, with this realization came a period of reflection. During my participation in the IPMI our industry and our economy have seen, and had to deal with, many issues. We have been through 2 wars, 3 presidents, periods of economic boom and periods of recession, high interest rates and low interest rates, buoyant stock markets and stock market crashes, high interest rates and low interest rates, buoyant stock markets and stock market crashes, high metal prices and low metal prices, family names in our industry going out of business, thankfully also some new faces, 9/11, new technology, ever changing environmental legislation, and we have sadly lost some old friends.
