Samples of upper green leaves and seeds of twelve genotypes of broad bean were procured and subjected to analysis for various biochemical parameters. Significant positive correlation between nitrate reductase activity (NEA) and protein content of bean genotypes were observed. Leaf NRA and protein content exhibited its highest value in PL-3 followed by JV-4 at vegetative stage. JV-4 showed maximum NRA and protein content as compared to PL-3 at the second stage and at third reproductive stage PL-3 and JV-4 gave highest values in comparision to others in this context. In leaves NRA showed a highly significant positive correlation (r = +0.94) with protein content at preanthesis and anthesis stages. However at postanthesis stage, NR activity decreased to minimal level. Wide variability in protein content and NR activity was also observed during seed development stages and genotypes PL-3 possessed maximum NRA and protein content followed by JV-4 and JV-2 at first, second, third and fourth stages of seed development. At maturity genotype PL-3 showed highest protein content followed by JV-4 and JV-2.
