The synthesized Schiff bases effectively protect steel in hydrogen sulfide media. Different primary amines were used as the starting reagents to find out how the protection effect of azomethines depends on their nature. It was shown that the higher the electron-donating properties (in terms of normal Wepster constants #sigma#~H) of substituents in benzaldehyde the better the inhibition of steel corrosion. IPKhAN-62, a new water-soluble mixed-type inhibitor of hydrogen sulfide corrosion, was found to be highly effective in corrosion tests and have considerable aftereffect.
