This is the second of a two part series on UV-A light and how it is used to attract and control insects. Part one appeared in the June/July issue of Professional Pest Manager.Fly Control Light Traps are required to comply with the International Standard IEC 60.335.254 Household and similar electrical appliances Safety - Part 2-59: Particular requirements for insect killers.As indicated in part one of this article, the shorter the wavelength, the more concern there is with UV light; with greatest concern for wavelengths less than 320nm (UV-B light) taken from the International Standard.This is also why the Philips' Long-life lamp has a cut-off point with no light emitted below 350nm, making it the safest lamp in the market.
