摘要

Safety sampling is a method by which management studies processes and people with the aim of making them safer by identifying,detecting,and reducing unsafe behaviors,and hence, accidents.Unsafe behaviors are the acts people perform and the circumstances processes provide prior to accidents. Trying to reduce future accidents by studying past accidents is analogous to driving a car by looking through the rearview mirror.Knowing where you have been is not the best method for getting you to where you want to go.Likewise,understanding past accidents does not provide enough information to prevent future accidents. Safety-sampling plans are discussed in (Refs.1-3).Generic figures regarding data collection sheet,list of work times,with serial numbers,map of work areas at Rochester Electro-Medical,Inc.(where teh case study was conducted) charts,and Pareto diagrams,are presented.(3 refs.)
