摘要

Based on a literature review of about 35 papers, the authors formulate eight hypotheses on the aspects on which the ISO 9000 certification has a positive influence. The study uses live questionnaire data collected from 93 sample firms, with a response rate of about 20 percent. The sample industries were mainly from the service sector (38 percent), followed by the construction (34 percent) and manufacturing sectors (28 percent). The data was subjected to reliability and validity tests.The sample consisted of:59 ISO 9000 certified firms.34 non-ISO 9000 certified firms.With this combined sample of firms in Singapore, the paper concludes that:ISO 9000 certification does not have any impact on quality management practices and quality results.Significant differences of quality management practices are found between industry groups in terms of certain dimensions of quality.No significant impact of firm size (as measured by the number of employees) on quality management practices was observed.Further studies are required to establish the facts more correctly.
