Various process capability indices (PCIs) used in the perspective of both normal and nonnormal situations are discussed. Since the PCIs used for normal processes are not suitable for nonnormal processes, many studies have been done to determine separate PCIs for nonnormal cases. The existing two families of nonnormal PCIs, one based on the median and another based on the mean, are presented. The performances of these PCIs are studied with respect to various nonnormal processes through simulations. The simulation results are discussed in detail. (17 refs.)
