DEA can be used to evaluate the relative efficiency of a given set of similar production units/decision making units (DMUs) with the same multiple inputs and multiple outputs. This DEA application on maintenance performance of 13 paper mills identifies 10 low performers, provides information on how much improvement they could make and recommends which of the three high performer plants to benchmark in order to improve their efficiency. A discussion of results is preesented.
