The estimates of the population total and change in the population total from one occasion to the next have been adjusted for unit nonresponse using the Hansen and Hurwitz (Ref. 1) technique. An application to the estimation of total hectares of land planted in the 1999/2000 planting seasons in Botswana is presented. (10 refs.) In a survey that is repetitive, estimates from the current survey can be improved by using some information obtained from the panel members in the past survey. In these surveys, some sample units may fail to supply information even after callbacks. Estimators of the population total have been presented to take care of unit nonresponse. It has been shown that all these estimators have smaller variance than the usual strategy To. It has also been shown that for greater precision, it is advisable to retain some second stage sample units. It has been found that when the correlation coefficient between the observations at the first and second occasions is about 0.8, the gain in efficiency of T over To is about the same, irrespective of the value of the proportion of nonresponse in the population as shown by the author in this article.
