The size of an adaptive sample may often far exceed that of the initial sample. A method is used to put desirable constraints on the adaptive sample size to keep the latter in check. An application is presentep to estimate total numbers of rural earners through specific vocations in a given district in India simultaneously for several vocations. (11 refs.) In this paper, adaptive sampling has been used in the exploration of mineral deposits in unknown regional pockets in studies to estimate the number of rare animals or plants in an area and the similar surveys. Motivation for adaptive sampling in a practical setup and constraining its sizes is from Chaudhuri, et al. (Ref. 1), the distribution of immbers of rural earners in 10 different unorganized nonagricultural vocations among all the villages in a particular district in India.
