摘要

Multilevel models are used for statistical modeling of response variables that involve some dependence due to clustering. Here cluster membership influences the response and hence the responses of two units in the same cluster are generally more alike than responses from two randomly chosen units. This article considers two-level random intercept models which exhibit one level of clustering and where the correlation resulted by this clustering can be expressed by a single term. However, some three-level models can also be described within this general frame-work. (13 refs.)
