ISO 9004:2009 international standard for the sustained success of an organization, brings quality management into a new area of sustained success. The standard puts forth the new paradigm, sustained success, to a set of other well-known concepts associated with sustainability. The three terms sustained success, sustainable development, and corporate sustainability, though not the same, share commonalities and interrelationships. Sustainable development is a change that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustained success is the result of an organization's capability to achieve and maintain its objectives in the long term. Corporate sustainability is a business approach that creates long-term shareholder value by embracing opportunities and managing all types of risks. (26 refs.)
