The paper contributes to four important areas in the above general context.Three broad types of auxiliary information are identified and used in the estimation.The effect of alternative choices of starting weights for calibration is examined.The variance estimation is re-examined.The calibration approach is compared with the traditional model assisted regression technique which uses a linear regression fit at two levels and similarity of the properties is established.(12 refs.)
