The cooperative activities and partnerships are considered to be key determinants of the success of TQM (total quality management) efforts in the supply chain. This study assessed 33 elements of supplier-customer relationships in Canadian manufacturing organizations to provide a relatively compact instrument for measuring the relations more effectively and efficiently. The model for factor extraction indicates that a significant portion of the scale variance is accounted for by three major components: Improvement activities. Long term purchasing. Market adjustment. The application of this model in the context of TQM activities highlights that the relationships between OEMs and their key suppliers have focused mainly on long-term purchasing arrangements and market adjustments rather than on the more important joint improvement activities.
