This article covers control charts and process capability indices at a very basic level. There are no new conclusions, except observations from a historical perspective. In the context of TQM, reengineering and six sigma, the article concludes that the basic tools have been refined and augmented, and SPC serves in muted presence to underpin the new, expanded technologies.
