To offset falling demand for its paper products. Resolute Forest Products plans to enter the private-label consumer tissue business — and will spend $270 million on a 66,000 tons/yr paper machine and three converting lines at its Calhoun mill complex in Tennessee. Resolute said the Calhoun operation in the US Southeast is ideally situated to sell product to Eastern US markets. Calhoun is 775 to 800 miles from New York City and Miami, respectively, and 145 miles from Charlotte, NC. Production will target the growing market for at-home, premium private label tissue paper, including bath and towel.
