Strong shipments and tight supply enabled North American kraft paper producers to push through an announced mainly $60/ton price increase on most grades for April. This will increase margin pressure on bag and sack converters unless they raise finished bag and sack prices on pass throughs for what is already the second paper price increase this year. Converters were unable to raise prices across-the-board after the first $40-50/ton kraft paper increase that was implemented by January.
