From spring maintenance downtime and an April decline in bleached softwood kraft (BSK) producer inventory of chemical market pulp, West Fraser called for a $20/tonne increase in June for its northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) market pulp in all key global markets. The West Fraser increase surprised some since the company typically is not a first out with an NBSK hike. The increase from West Fraser was on May 24 — the same day that the Pulp and Paper Products Council (PPPC) reported a two days of supply drop in BSK among world-20 producers.
