US export liner prices still under pressure-biggest price decline in S. Europe

US kraft linerboard export prices continued to erode in offshore markets in the face of excess supply, slowing economic growth, and the rising dollar. But the amount of the price decline remains small in most regions — with the exception of southern Europe, according to traders. Meanwhile there are signs that US producers may be starting to pull back slightly on export shipments. Linerboard production for export in July dropped from 385,000 tons in June to 353,000 tons in July, down 7.3% from a year ago — though still up 5.2% year-to-date, according to the latest American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) statistics.
