TO THE EDITOR: Neuropsy-chiatric manifestations, such as psychotic symptoms, depression, and dementia, are associated with vitamin B_12 deficiency. Olfactory phenomenon can be seen in schizophrenia, monosymptomatic hypo-chondriacal psychosis, and severe depression with psychotic symptoms. However, it could also be associated with organic conditions, such as complex partial seizures and frontal lobe tumors. We report a case of a middle-aged woman who presented with an olfactory perceptual abnormality. Evaluation revealed a vitamin B_12 deficiency that responded to supplementation.
