This issue of Ultrasound Clinics is devoted to highlighting the importance and versatility of sonography in the evaluation of patients presenting with acute symptomatology. I have asked a number of leaders in sonography from both the Radiology Community and the Emergency Department Community to share their expertise with our readers. Sonography is recognized as the primary imaging modality for the evaluation of suspected genitourinary pathology in both male and female patients, pregnancy complications, and right upper quadrant pain, and these topics are wonderfully reviewed in this issue. More recently, sonography has been effectively utilized to evaluate acute musculoskeletal injuries and acute ocular pathology.
