摘要

There is a large body of literature, both conceptual and empirical, on the ethical aspects of death and dying in medical patients. There is comparatively little written on the ethical issues clinicians encounter caring for patients with serious mental illness facing end-of-life dilemmas. Several case reports describe the complex moral questions that face clinicians treating patients with co-occurring psychotic disorders and terminal illnesses. The lack of attention to the special challenges of providing appropriate and empathetic palliative care to patients with schizophrenia has been underscored in a few articles.
