Polysilicon and wafer trends: Prices should stabilize this year, but recovery is forecast to remain slow. Charles Annis, Vice President of NPD Solarbuzz, explains the dynamics of the polysilicon and wafer markets. In 2012, c-Si PV modules accounted for 88% of production with thin film making up only the remaining 12% and no significant change is expected in this trend over the next five years. In spite of the continuously expanding solar end market and the industry's heavy reliance on crystalline silicon, over the past two years the polysilicon and wafer markets have been devastated by overcapacity and severe price declines. In 2013, by most metrics used to track the health of the industry, polysilicon and wafer markets are expected to stabilize, but recovery is forecast to remain slow.
