摘要

Coronary band injury occurs relatively frequently in the horse. Wounds are usually contaminated to some degree and wound classification is based on the degree of contamination as outlined below: 1. Clean (an aseptic wound); 2. Clean-contaminated (minor break in asepsis during wounding); 3. Contaminated (major break in asepsis during wounding); 4. Dirty (wound with retained devitalised tissue and foreign material); 5. Infected (acute bacterial infection with purulent material in wound). The equinecoronary band has a vascular rich coronary plexus and it is not surprising therefore, that most coronary band injuries are associated with profuse haemorrhage.
