Silicon- and tin-containing molecules are versatilebuilding blocks in organic synthesis. A stalwartmethod for their preparation relies on the stoichiometricuse of silicon- and tin-based cuprates, although a few copper(I)-catalyzed or even copper-free protocols havebeen known for decades. In this Concept, we describeour efforts towards copper(I)-catalyzed carbon-siliconand also carbontin bond formations using soft bis-ACHTUNGTRENUNG(triorganosilyl) and bis(triorganostannyl) zinc reagentsas powerful sources of nucleophilic silicon and tin. Conjugate addition, allylic substitution, and carbon-carbonmultiple bond functionalization is now catalytic in copper!
