Sweet direction: Glucose was used as a crystal-growth-directing agent and carbon source to synthesize nanosized and highly dispersed carbon and lanthanum co-doped TiO_2 crystals with exposed {001} facets by a simple one-step hydrothermal method, which gave visible-light-responsive TiO_2 nanocrystals that present high UV and visible-light photoactivity.
