More than 7.2 million paychecks in the United States are dependent on the struggling domestic auto industry, including jobs in the manufacturing, health care, service and retail industries. On May 11, our union and the Alliance for American Manufacturing embarked on an 11-state, 30-plus city bus tour to deliver the important message that those jobs matter to all of us, not just Detroit, and all of us need to be in the fight to save them. At every stop, the "Keep It Made in America" bus tour highlighted one common theme: Auto and other manufacturing jobs are the foundation of the American Dream, and the American Dream is under assault.
