The above may one day be a reality, thanks to a new material that is a combination of silicone and nanoribbons of lead zirconate titanate (PZT). It is a ceramic material that is piezoelectric allowing it to generate an electrical voltage when pressure is applied to it. Of all the piezoelectric materials, including quartz, PZT is able to convert 80% of the mechanical energy applied to it into electrical energy.
